IT’S NOT FIBERGLASS… WeatherGem’s Fiberglass Wicker is not like the fiberglass in tables and boats. Fiberglass is a mixture of sprayed gel coat followed by subsequent layers of chopped-up fiberglass roving and resin.

IT’S NOT WICKER… True wicker starts with a wood or metal furniture frame, which either rot or rust. Solid rattan core is woven tightly around the frame and the joints are wrapped with strands of peel that come from the outer skin of the rattan. While rattan wicker is rugged, it is not weatherproof. To solve this problem, manufacturers are importing plastic wicker that uses plastic (resin) strands for the basic weave and joint wrappings.

WeatherGem uses especially strong roving (or fiberglass twine) that its weavers saturate in resins and special colors. Several strands are twisted together as they are woven onto WeatherGem’s proprietary molds. To obtain a “swirl” effect, the weavers saturate some roving in white and some in aother color, which are then “twisted” before being placed on the molds. The tops of arms and chair backs are covered with a thick “wrap” of 20 or more strands of roving. Since our furniture is constructed with unbroken fiberglass fibers soaked in resin, it has superior strength, durability and weight when compared to furniture made with layers of chopped fiberglass. In fact, Wickerglass™ is stronger than any other furniture in the market.

1. WILL NOT SEPARATE, TURN CHALKY OR FADE. Since it is solid and thoroughly soaked in resin (“A”), there are no layers in WickerglassTM that can separate. Wickerglass™ does not have a gel coat finish. Instead, only the “wraps” for the arms, backs and bases (“B”) are “clear coated” with a unique resin that makes the surfaces shine. There is nothing in Wickerglass™ to dull, crack, peel, turn yellow, fade or turn “chalky”.

3. WILL NOT SPLINTER, BECOME BRITTLE OR DETERIORATE. When exposed to rain, snow, chlorinated water and/or sunlight both the rattan core and wraps dry, splinter and deteriorate. Plastic wicker also deteriorates in sunlight. But solid Wickerglass™ is impervious to rain, snow, chlorinated water or UV rays.

4. AMAZINGLY LIGHT AND EASY TO HANDLE. Wicker and fiberglass are heavy and bulky. Yet, the exceptional design of WickerglassTM produces furniture that is light and airy – almost petite (“C”) . The Blake chair only weighs 5 pounds, the Captain is an amazing 9 pounds and the 48” Dining Table is an astounding 13 pounds! Yet, all Wickerglass™ furniture is strong like metal and there are no “joints” to come loose.

5. NO DISCOLORATION. Both natural and plastic wicker discolor when exposed to UV rays. Plastic actually yellows. WickerglassTM will not discolor, because the color is completely soaked into the fibers (“D”).

6. NO WEAK LINKS OR FRAMES TO ROT, RUST OR CORRODE. Weak points in natural and plastic wicker exist where the “peel” wraps secure the joints and wicker to the frame. These “weak links” almost always break first, are nearly impossible to repair, and ruin the wicker. Additionally, wicker must be built on a frame, which is covered and not exposed for air drying. The frame is constantly wet. Wood frames rot, metal frames rust and aluminum frames corrode. Wickerglass™ has no “weak links” and does not have any hidden frames, because the Wickerglass™ is the frame (“E”) .

7. IMPACT IMPERVIOUS. Sharp impacts can damage gel coats, and wicker strands and wraps. Wickerglass™ will withstand blows that would ruin other furniture, because once the fiberglass and resin bind the frame is so strong it cannot even be cut with scissors (“F”)! Imagine the results of cutting natural or plastic wicker strands!

8. HANDCRAFTED WORKS OF ART THAT ARE HEIRLOOMS. Each piece of Wickerglass™ is constructed by skilled artists who take exceptional pride in their “art”. No two pieces are exactly alike -- each is an individual work (“G”). Wickerglass™ can be passed from one generation to the next, which is truly long lasting beauty.

9. A PALLETE FULL OF COLORS Others offer 2 or maybe even 4 frame colors. WeatherGem offers Wickerglass™ in over 20 different colors! No one else can offer such a huge and versatile range.

10. NO CRUMBLING WOOD IN THE SEAT.Swivel and rocker boxes must be mounted between the seat and base. The traditional approach has been to use fiberglass over wood for the mounts. When water penetrates into the wood through the bolt holes, it rots. Wickerglass™ furniture is designed for extra strength at the mounting points. There is no wood to decay.

11. TEMPERED TABLE GLASS WITH A RECESSED TABLE TOP LIP. Wickerglass™ table glass is safety tempered and nearly unbreakable (“H”). All tables have glass tops and all glass tops are deeply recessed into the table top (“I”), which provides safety and convenience.

12. EQUALLY APPROPRIATE OUTDOORS AND INDOORS. No one would consider using aluminum, redwood, teak, cast iron, plastic or any other type of lawn furniture inside their home. Not so for YEAR AROUND, DUAL PURPOSE Wickerglass™ – the only furniture that can be carried out or carried in – it doesn’t matter!

13. COMPETIVELY PRICED. Given its unmatched value, Wickerglass™ is extremely competitive. The #1901 Captain’s and #1915 Diamond chairs are priced between WeatherGem’s entry level #1301 – #1303 PVC cushion chairs and its upper level #1304 – #1309 cushion furniture. WeatherGem’s 42” and 48” fiberglass tables (#1500-4 and -5) are only 15% less than the Wickerglass™ tables (#1967 & #1968). FINISH STANDARDS WeatherGem checks each piece for unusual drips and voids. “Snag” points on the “bucket” wrap that forms the seat front, arms and outer edge of the back are removed. The various fiberglass strands in the main frame remain untouched from the original weave. The “bucket” and chair base wraps are coated with a shiny clear coat of special resin. The surface of the “bucket” wrap receives a final inspection before shipping.
